WHAT DOES “AGORA” MEAN?
Agora is a Greek word that means “marketplace,” the place where people gather to share their gifts, resources, and ideas. Today’s world is increasingly becoming a global marketplace, and many people are coming to the US from various parts of the world, enriching our congregations and communities.
Agora’s mission is to strengthen the ministry of congregations that embrace the growing diversity of our society by helping to develop lay leaders for immigrant and multicultural congregations. We hope that these leaders will be able to strengthen the ministries of their own congregations and that some of them will also be able to serve as cultural ambassadors, guiding and accompanying traditional congregations as they seek to reach out to their new neighbors.
“The gifts [God] gave were that some would be apostles, some prophets, some evangelists, some pastors and teachers, to equip the saints for the work of ministry, for building up the body of Christ.” Ephesians 4:11-12
